This Game Of Baseball...

All good things must come to an end, right? You win some, you lose some, right? Platitudes upon platitudes, blabity blah blah blah.

Pitching wasn't all there tonight, which is why the Tigers got 10. I think our batters showed up - especially Nick Swisher, ooo-eee! - but then pitching was no good, fielding got bad, batting got bad and by the end even baserunning was bad.

I mean not "couldn't score to save their lives" bad but "this is not the team from Thursday" bad, is all.

Corey Kluber was not fitting in to the mold of "wow we didn't expect such great things from our pitching staff!" today. Where he had previously given up 5 runs total in his last 3 starts (no, 2 starts and a middle relief),  tonight he gave up 8 in 4 2/3 innings.

Ooooh....

Of course, he was facing probably the best lineup in the MLB but still. That's not how our pitchers pitch anymore!

His buddies from the bullpen weren't all that hot either. Shaw and Hagadone were unfazed and took care of the rest of the 5th and then the 6th with no runs getting across. But Rich Hill gave up a home run to Andy Dirks (DIRKS!) to lead off the 7th, and Albers threw a wild pitch to let a runner (on by error) get to third and then score off a single. So those two didn't look so swell.

Four homers and six doubles. There's your 10 runs right there.

The Tribe had errors tonight after first leading the league in errors and then having a really long stretch where we went errorless. Two errors - Santana and Chisenhall. Best thing about all that is that it wasn't Asdrubal. But then he got a baserunning error so forget I said anything.

Michael Bourne was back today! He was not impressive. I won't hold it against him yet. There was some sloppiness in the outfield involving him and other dudes who were running around him (no called errors). He only struck out once. It can only get better from here!

Kipnis is still hangin' tough, getting his 5th double of the season today. His average and Asdrubal's average are the same right now! Twins! Only Kipnis got a real double and Asdrubal got a single that came off a mis-handled ball, then realized he should have run to second only to be greeted by said ball upon his arrival. ¡Ay Dios Mío!

Nick Swisher can't be brought down! DudeBro broke out of his "only" 1 hit per game "funk" and  almost hit for the cycle! His triple was way legit, too. Did you know the Tribe has 8 triples this season? They do. And they don't even lead the league! Two teams have 9 and another team has 8. Love the triple!

Swish missed the homer, but went 3 for 4 otherwise, giving him a 5-game hitting streak with 10 hits in those games. And also 5 RBI!

Nobody got a walk today, not even Carlos Santana. He went 1 for 4 with his 10th double, and got an RBI on a ground out. He's got 9 hits in his last 10 games and 6 RBI! And 9 walks to boot! What we do need, though, for serious, is for him to be on base more than once per game. Walk + hit, two hits, something. Him being on base a lot is ALWAYS a factor!

Reynolds and Brantley (batting 7th) both got RBI tonight but no hits. It is nice to have guys who can and will get the bat on the ball to get home some runs, even if it's not a hit. Much better than earlier this year and parts of last year with all of the clutch strikeouts. So good on that bottom of the order today - at least they're trying!

Aww, Meryl Masterson's streak is over. I'm glad, it was getting silly! She'll be back though, when the team needs a little pick-me-up. Damn, I shoulda ordered some cookies...If anyone wants to send me some, I'm willing to give my home address to strangers on the Internet!

Tomorrow is more Tigers, more fun! Ubaldo versus RHP 1.55. You know who I am talking about! This could actually be epic - gotta tune in to see!

A 7:05 start - I'll see you there!
